Stratigraphy/ Exposure

During color coatings exploration the coatings are exposed mechanically and layer by layer (stratigraphic) and sounded out. Aside from the colors used during original construction, also its base and all later applied coatings are of interest for the conservation process. Every stratigraphic finding is recorded in word and imagery and carefully mapped.

The results of the entire process are described in the documentation text in easy-reference language. For better understanding, some of the more complex findings are clarified by means of drawings, sketches, floor plans and mappings. Using all this, we build a preliminary concept for the restoration/ conservation process to come.
